the list grows...

By Valentine's Day, I was starting to think I was getting good. I was so excited about what I was working on!!!

My very first UV work. I had an extremely difficult time with it. So difficult that I actually think I'll remake the bucket. I'm learning the process of projecting a highpoly onto a low poly object, so I've started making a high poly version of everything I've made so far.
I will have to post some of the reference I found for making some of these objects. I found some amazing 1700s furniture on which my chair is based. I also found the real shape of a genuine mug a pirate would have used! My dad had one sitting in box. Also, there's always room for variation when it comes to hooks.

This is where I started making more interesting things. I was thinking about what I could have that would make this town different from the ordinary town you see in the Caribbean in the 1700s. I knew I wanted to have ship wheels lying around, but then I thought of trying to make them more interesting, part of the scenery. As chandeliers! This is also when I found out about nurms. mmmm nurms.
My list of assets has grown longer and longer. I have a lot of things that I would really like to make to complete my pirate scene. There are of course, the obligatory items that every pirate needs...the cannon, a barrel of gunpowder, or ale, or whatever pirates have stolen, and of course a treasure chest full of gold. And who could forget about a hook?

First post!

This is my very first blog. In fact, this has already been a year of firsts! In February I decided to pursue my talent in art, and take it to the next level - 3D modeling. While I have taken a few jabs at 3ds max in the past, this is the first time I've tried to make something look like something other than a line or a box. This was a whole new learning experience! But I threw myself into it, and within a week I knew the basics of modelling.
I knew what I wanted to make. I have always been fascinated by pirates, and I was determined to make a little town housed by pirates. I had thought of what kinds of buildings I would have, as well as a basic layout of what the little town looked like. However, I knew I had to start making assets, and honestly I couldn't wait to make a cannon.
These are just screen caps of what I was working on in 3ds max. I didn't know how to render an object until later
